The syringe is a simple reciprocating pump consisting of a plunger which is tightly assembled in a cylindrical tube called a cylinder. The plunger can be pushed and pulled linearly along the inside of the tube, so that the syringe can inhale or discharge liquid or gas through the front end (opening) of the tube. The open end of the syringe can be equipped with a hypodermic needle, nozzle or tube to help guide fluid in and out of the syringe. Syringes are often used in clinical medicine to perform injections, inject intravenous therapy into blood, apply compounds such as glue or lubricants, and extract / measure fluids.
